2011-2012 International Scholarship White Rose Research Studentship at University of Leeds, UK

The Economic & Social Research Council is the main provider of postgraduate awards in the areas of economic and social sciences. The University of Leeds has been allocated a number of studentships as part of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (WR DTC), a major new collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York with a total of 48 ESRC studentships per year over 5 years. The WR DTC is one of the largest consortia in the country and offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences as well as numerous training opportunities, particularly focused upon maximising the social and economic benefits of research. These studentships are held in certain clusters/pathways and may be available on either a 1+3 or +3 basis (or a 2+2 or 2+5 basis in a more limited number of cases), depending on the chosen pathway.
Eligibility: Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number to be eligible for a White Rose Research Studentship. Applications without a valid University ID Number will be rejected. To apply for a place on a research degree programme, Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours degree. We seek motivated and ambitious collaborators and provide a well-equipped, interactive environment. The institute operates central facilities for animal work, cell sorting, sequencing, imaging, and proteomics. Candidates should have completed their PhD work with distinction in an area broadly relevant to our work. Expertise in other fields, such as mathematical modelling, biochemistry, etc. is also welcome.

The salary will be a postdoctoral fellowship of the Max Planck Society.

Scholarship Descripton: The International PhD program “Towards Advanced Functional Materials and Novel Devices – Joint UW and WUT International PhD Programme” realized by the Faculties of Chemistry of Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) and University of Warsaw (UW), Poland, designed in cooperation with well-recognized international research Partner institutions.

3 students will be admitted to the first or second year of the International PhD studies.
PhD Projects listed below are still available:

UW-4: “Solution Thermodynamic of Ionic Liquids in Water, Aliphatic Alcohols and Hydrocarbons”
UW-5: “Organic semiconductors for organic electronics: synthesis, characterization and application in test devices”

Duration of the program is 4 years, including 6-24 months spent abroad in the foreign Partner institutions.

A fellowship of 3000 PLN/month (tax-free) + 500 PLN/month (insurance) is offered, which compares well with the average salary in Poland. An additional allowance of 1500 PLN /month will be provided for the stay at the foreign partner institution.
Tuition fees for all coursework and health insurance are covered by the fellowship. The University will assist in finding accommodation.

VLIR-UOS Scholarships, Belgium

VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from developing countries to study a master or training programme in Belgium. VLIR-UOS scholarships cover all related expenses. Every year, VLIR-UOS awards up to 180 scholarships to first-year master students and 70 scholarships to training participants.

Applicants applying for both academic admission and a VLIR-UOS scholarship need to consider both the admission requirements and the scholarship criteria.

Applicants applying for academic admission but not for a scholarship simply need to fulfill only the admission requirements of the host university running the programme.

The host university is in charge of the academic admission of applications. Study results will be taken into consideration during the selection, but the most important academic selection criteria are relevant professional experience and prospects for applying the acquired insights after return to the developing country. The academic admission requirements are specific to every programme. Please peruse the requirements from the relevant programme.

A joint selection committee of VLIR-UOS and the host university is responsible for selecting scholarships. The host university – not the applicant – forwards the scholarship applications to the VLIR-UOS secretariat if the academic admission requirements are met.
